Marjan Unger

Marjan Unger is head of the post-graduate course in Applied Arts at the Sandberg Institute, which is affiliated to the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam. The course brings together people from diverse backgrounds in an environment where interdisciplinary work can flourish.

Marjan has always been fascinated by things: why they look the way they do; how they function; why you relate to the one and not the other.

She has studied design, tailoring, history of fashion and textiles, history of art and architecture as well as people and objects. A prolific writer Marjan has written numerous design-related books and catalogues as well as having edited Bijvoorbeeld, a Dutch design magazine. She is currently the editor of Morf.

In the summer of 2004 Marjan published the standard work Nederlandse sieraden in de 20ste eeuw (Dutch Jewellery in the 20th Century).
