About us
JMGA-NSW (The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia - NSW, Incorporate) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation. It is a group of jewellers and metalsmiths and others interested in related objects.
Note that JMGA-NSW was running a studios and workshop space at Pyrmont Studios in Sydney, however, the studios were closed in early 2006.
Aims:
The primary aims of the organisation are:
- To promote the crafts of jewellery and metalsmithing in Australia.
- To act as a vehicle by which jewellers and metalsmiths can communicate with each other, and those interested in this area.
- To support the advancement of craft in Australia.
- To maintain an exchange of information with similar groups in Australia and overseas.
- To publish newsletters and/or magazines which will be of benefit and promote members and membership.
- To generate funds, for the advancement of the crafts of jewellery and metalsmithing in Australia.
- To become a lobbying force in such areas as legislation affecting jewellers and metalsmiths and exhibitions.
- To consolidate the craft of jewellery and metalwork in Australia as an art form.
Membership:
The organisation offers membership to anyone interested in contemporary jewellery or metalsmithing. Find out more about becoming a member and how you can get involved.
Co-ordinating Committee
The Co-ordinating Committee, which is the executive of of JMGA-NSW, is elected annually from the membership at the AGM. The Committee generally meets on a monthly basis. Use the contact us form to reach the Committee.
Note that JMGA-NSW is entirely run through the dedicated and voluntary efforts of the members.
JMGA nationally
JMGA-NSW is part of a loose affiliation of state jewellery and metalsmiths groups (JMGV, JMGQ, JMGA WA, etc) collectively known as JMGA. JMGA produces Lemel, a national journal produced quarterly.
The responsibility for producing Lemel and organising national and international conferences presently rotates on an ad hoc basis from state to state usually for a two year term. The next conference will be held in Adelaide in 2007.
